Telecom Sector May Hire 38,000 People In FY23 | The Telecom industry is expected to create 38,000 new jobs this fiscal year, more than double the number it hired last year, when it hired 19,000 people.

Deval Singh, TeamLease Services’ Business Head for telecom, IT and ITeS, media, and government, stated that “the rapid development of new technologies like AI, 5G, advanced data analytics, and edge computing is responsible for the current scale and pace in the telecom industry.”
Deval Singh stated that this has resulted in a shift in the industry’s skill needs, with a demand for applicants with cutting-edge talents.
There will be major openings in the fields of network engineering, network operation, data analytics, cloud computing, artificial intelligence & big data analytics, IoT, mobile app development, robotic process automation, and automation driving.
According to Shekhar Garisa, CEO of Monster.com, “Telecom hiring grew by 13% in FY20, decreased by 1% in FY21, and spiked by 29% in FY22.”
Shekhar Garisa added that “aggressive recruiting will be seen for roles with AI/ML, Cloud, data compliance, IoT, and cyber security skills”.
Growth will be driven by the increase in demand for new-age skill-based profiles, whose demand has been enhanced by the expected rollout of 5G. Moreover, with a demand-supply imbalance of about 28 percent, over 150,000 jobs are needed in 5G.
According to Shetty, as telcos progress towards digital transformation, “they will be competing for professionals with IT companies specifically.”
The challenge can be met by re-skilling and upskilling the existing workforce in addition to creating new professional skills.
TSSC plans to increase skill infrastructure and workforce, train 100,000 people in the next three years, and open 10 new centers of excellence throughout the country.
