Systems/Software Engineer for Automation of Hardware Bringup and Test
- Seeking a systems engineer with very strong Linux system admin skills as well as object oriented python programming skills.
- The individual needs to be very detail oriented with excellent documentation and communication skills.
- They should be skilled in github code change control and code review processes.
- Basic layer 2 and linux networking skills including ARP and DHCP are expected; deeper network skills would be extremely useful as well.
- They should be able to code from architecture and design documentation and to participate in review and creation of such documentation.
- Knowledge of security vulnerabilities and patching of systems would be extremely useful.
- Ideally the candidate should also be familiar with server hardware subsystems including proc,mem,storage,io adapters,bmcs as well as skills required for server bringup including fw/bios updates, bios settings, network booting.
- Knowledge of JIRA, Redfish, xCAT, RAID storage, image generation, switches, and BGP/ECMP are a plus, but not required.
Job Description:
- The individual will work on a team responsible to deliver and execute python code that prepares server and rack level components to be deployed to the cloud. This includes all initial bringup steps, as well as configuration checks to ensure the racks and servers were built correctly and that all expected components are recognized.
- The code performs stress testing of CPU, memory, storage and network.
- The code must be flexible to handle various new types of servers and other devices.
- The individual will contribute to, as well as execute automation python code and needs to be able to take direction to develop code for automated test of new hardware types, test the automation in the lab environment and in the field, and review how the automation responds in production datacenters to make improvements.
- A key aspect of the automation is detection of hardware issues.
- The individual must learn what types of hardware failures to expect and ensure the code has very good problem isolation and clear output so that datacenter technicians know what components to replace or swap to isolate and fix the issues.
- There is also opportunity and need for focus on security and network within the context of hardware automation.
